Amanda Pereira

Amanda Pereira is a medical student at the University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine. Her research focuses on exploring the relationship between diabetes prevalence and the quality of parks across various cities in the Greater Toronto Area. In collaboration with health researchers, clinicians, and urban planners, she has been utilizing the ParkSeek tool to audit different parks and green spaces. The findings from her study aim to identify parks that healthcare providers can prescribe to patients as part of social prescribing initiatives, specifically through parks prescriptions to encourage physical activity. Additionally, this research will be used to advocate for the development of higher quality parks in neighbourhoods that do not currently have these amenities.
