NHP Summer Research and Training Program
Applications will open on January 7th for the MPH stream and January 12th for the MD and Undergraduate streams.
The Network for Healthy Populations is dedicated to training and preparing the next generation of health leaders to address the rising risk and burden of diabetes and related cardiometabolic conditions.
Program Objectives:
- Gain research experience, knowledge, and skills to prepare for future career goals
- Participate in education and professional development opportunities available via the Network and across UofT campuses
- Network with mentors and experts from the field and seek guidance and mentorship on career goals
- Connect with other trainees who are interested in reducing social inequities and addressing the root cause of diabetes and/or related cardiometabolic conditions
Applications will open on January 7th for the MPH stream and January 12th for the MD and Undergraduate streams.
Who should apply:
- Currently enrolled in a University of Toronto program (until August 31, 2026), as an undergraduate, medical school/health professional student or non-thesis graduate student
- Interested in gaining research experience, knowledge and skills to prepare for careers that aim to reduce the risk and burden of diabetes and related cardiometabolic conditions
- Interested in networking with peers, mentors, and subject matter experts
- Legally able to work in Canada
- Available to participate full-time (36.25 hours/week) from May 4 – August 21, 2026 (MPH students) or June 1 – August 21, 2026 (MD/undergraduate students)
- Able to work in-person and virtually, as needed (research teams are based in Toronto and Mississauga)
- Able to meet in-person weekly (dates and times TBD) for networking, mentorship, and knowledge exchange opportunities
- Please note, that students selected into the NHP Summer Research and Training Program cannot participate in other summer training programs

Please select the program stream based on the status you will have at the University of Toronto until August 31, 2026, and follow the outlined instructions to submit your application.

Review & Selection Process
The following steps will be taken to review and select applications:
Eligibility screening: Applications will be reviewed and will be rated for alignment between the applicant and the selected project.
Interviews: Top applicants will be invited for an interview.
Reference Check: Selected candidates will be asked to provide contact information for two references.
