Estelle Kim is a fourth-year undergraduate student specializing in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on equity-oriented approaches to chronic disease management, with a particular emphasis on Type 2 diabetes in Black communities. She is working with Dr. Kristina Kokorelias and her team to conduct a qualitative evidence synthesis of culturally tailored diabetes self-management interventions for Black communities. By analyzing implementation outcomes such as feasibility, acceptability, and scalability, her work highlights how adapting interventions to cultural beliefs, language, and traditions can improve engagement and health outcomes. This project aims to inform the development of more inclusive and effective healthcare strategies for equity-deserving populations, with implications for addressing systemic disparities in regions such as Peel, Ontario.
