Jill Shah is a third-year medical student at the University of Toronto. Her research project focused on addressing health inequities to reduce diabetes-related amputations. For this qualitative study, she interviewed frontline clinicians to better understand how to reduce access barriers to care for patients with diabetic foot ulcers. The preliminary findings highlighted the challenges posed by social barriers and inconsistent referrals in the Peel region. As the study progresses, additional interviews will be conducted, leading to the final stage of co-designing an equity-focused referral pathway.
