Nazifa Rashid is a third-year Population Health student at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Her research project addresses the significant chronic disease burden in the Peel region, where projections indicate that by 2025, over one in six individuals will develop Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, or hypertension. In response, the Field to Fork Project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an 8-week food literacy program inspired by the Whole Foods Plant-Based (WFPB) diet at the Ecosource Teaching Kitchen in Mississauga. The program aligns with the organization’s climate initiatives and emphasizes cost-effective, locally available food options. It includes interactive workshops, practical demonstrations, and reflective sessions to enhance participants' nutritional and food skills related self-efficacy and knowledge. The findings will help inform the development of future community health programs. Nazifa is supervised by Community Climate Hub Manager, Ms. Merissa Nudelman and Executive Director, Ms. Britt McKee.
