Saba Shariati is a second-year medical student at the University of Toronto. The focus of her research project was addressing health inequities to reduce diabetes-related amputations. For this project, she conducted a scoping review of existing studies to explore interventions that have been used to reduce access barriers to diabetic foot care in high-risk and equity-deserving populations. The findings highlighted the need for multi-component interventions to improve access to care. As the study progresses, these findings will be shared with community members, stakeholders, and people with lived experiences of amputations or diabetic foot ulcers to inform co-design workshops aimed at developing equity-focused interventions to improve access to diabetic foot care.
