Vishva Shah is a second-year medical student at the University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine. Her research project focuses on understanding the barriers and facilitators to the self-management of young-onset type 2 diabetes. Young-onset patients, defined as those diagnosed under the age of 40, are at higher risk for cardiovascular complications compared to patients diagnosed at an older age. This project aims to recruit patients and diabetes care providers to participate in a mixed-methods participatory approach called concept mapping. The results of this study will be used to inform the adaptation of a personalized care pathway for young-onset patients at Trillium Health Partners.
